Thanks to a local will to promote the francophonie and its values, Alliance Française de Luganville was born in 1996. 1996 was one year blessed for this association  called firstly Amitiés France-Vanuatu since the same year it becomes an Alliance Française subsidized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From there, years passed with a lot of directors (often co-operators who, in addition to their work, dealt with the AFL) and this administrative instability will involve its stagnation and not its development. The budget was there but not the adequate initiatives, in short an alliance which really did not go… In November 2005, it closes its doors…

 

April 2006, a new director arrives in this empty shell which is the AFL, empty because its material disappeared… Overhead projector, CD and DVD Player, Digital camera, 17 computers on a score existing formerly and intended for computer courses, there remain nothing. It is in this climate of despair which the revival of Alliance begins. It develops under the impulse of this new staff. The links between the various institutions, the schools and the population are recreated, of the events suitable for Luganville are created, of the voluntary people are placed in the districts of the city, of the projects are undertaken. Among these projects appear the renewal of the library for youth (thing has never carried out in ten years), the will to create four arts centre with the four corners of the island of Espiritu Santo and a project of animabrousse (library and mobile cinema). Never considering, of the ambition and a will to extend on the French-speaking island of the Vanuatu, here are which were the projects of Alliance Française de Luganville in 2006.

 

The hope makes live and the development of culture in Luganville and its surroundings thanks to the supports of our members, the French Embassy (MAE) and of the possible benefactors makes it possible that AFL go ahead and continue its objectives in order to go as far as possible…
